Battle for a Park

Akron Beacon Journal
Letter to the Editor
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Since last August, there has been a movement to create a park in the Forest Hill area of North Akron. There have been petitions submitted with 250 names, and contact has been made with all members of the Akron City Council, the mayor and the Planning Department. We have communicated our intentions clearly, but we have been put off and, now, basically ignored.

The question remains: What is more important, a park serving over 1,000 people or 17 new houses in an area where there are perhaps 40 houses now for sale or vacant?

We are a grass-roots movement involved in and for our neighborhood, and we refuse to go away.
